The Explore What Matters Foundation exists to support adventurous learning experiences for the next generation.

We believe that giving young adults access to meaningful education in nature helps them build the character, skills, resilience and courage they need to live with purpose and contribute positively to society.

The Foundation is funded through profits from our core learning experiences, as well as through individual donations and grants.

If you or your organisation would like to sponsor a place or co-create a dedicated learning journey, we’d love to explore the possibilities with you. Please get in touch.

Leadership For Good

The Leadership for Good Academy helps early-career young adults to create the conditions for good things to happen in their lives, communities, and the wider world.

We believe that potential isn't defined by past achievements - but by attitude, courage, and a desire to contribute. That’s why applicants are selected based on their mindset and ambition, rather than formal qualifications or experience.

Participants begin their journey with an experiential learning programme, set in nature, designed to stretch their thinking, build confidence, and foster deep self-awareness.

Graduates become part of a lifelong, active alumni network: a diverse and supportive community, committed to personal growth and tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The Academy offers them ongoing opportunities for connection, collaboration, and development.

Co-founded by Scotty Johnson, founder of Explore What Matters, and Richard Strudwick, Explore What Matters coach and consultant, the Leadership for Good Academy is a flagship initiative and a core beneficiary of the Explore What Matters Foundation.

If you are passionate about supporting the next generation of purposeful leaders, we’d love to hear from you.

To Know A Mountain

In 2023, we proudly supported the creation of To Know A Mountain: a short film born from The Following Nan Project, a micro-expedition of nine women into the Cairngorms inspired by the writings of Nan Shepherd.

The project explored a slower, more inclusive form of mountaineering, celebrating presence, connection, and deep environmental awareness over personal achievement.

The resulting film, released in Autumn 2024, invites more women into the outdoors and reimagines what it means to know a mountain.
